Stephen Colbert will host the 2017 Emmys,Osawa Yuka Archives and he's already getting political.

“This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period,” Colbert said in a statement, a direct reference to the Trump administration's false claims about inauguration attendance. “Both in person and around the globe.”

“We’re excited to kick off the new season and celebrate the top achievements in television with Stephen Colbert as host of the Primetime Emmys,” said CBS executive vice president of specials, music and live events Jack Sussman in the same release. “Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we’ve seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. We look forward to honoring television’s best while entertaining audiences with the creative energy and sharp comedy of Stephen Colbert.”

This will be Colbert's first time hosting the Emmys.

Longtime Colbert fans are likely hopeful that this September event may be like the iconic set the comedian did at the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner with President George W. Bush.

The 69th Emmys will take place on Sept. 17.
