This year was so good for movies that even some of the bad ones got Oscar nominations. (Yes,USA Archives we're looking at you, Passengers.)

"The day after the Oscars, the focus should be back on making films,' said actor Ken Watanabe in the Oscar nominations live stream. "Good films."

It's a safe bet there will be more good films like La La Landgoing forward, after the movie-musical scored 14 nominations.

Below, six things to know about this year's Oscar nominees.

1. La La Land ties record nominations

The film that earned a record seven wins at the Golden Globes will now be trying to go 14-for-14 at the Oscars. The other two films to score 14 nods? Titanicand All About Eve. That's pretty good company.

2. Viggo Mortensen holds his own

Mortensen is a bit of a happy surprise in the Best Actor category. He scored a Golden Globe nomination for indie darling Captain Fantastic, and while he may not take home the winning statue, it's great to see the film (and his stellar performance) get more love.

3. Welcome to the party, Amazon

Amazon Studios became the first streaming service to land a best picture Oscar nomination. The awards love for Manchester By The Seamakes their decision to pay $10 million for the rights to the Sundance hit a year ago a smart move.

4. The elusive EGOT

Lin-Manuel Miranda has an Emmy, Grammy and Tony, and now he's up for an Oscar for Best Original Song in Moana. The odds are stacked in favor of La La Land, but entering two songs could split votes and hurt the film's chance of winning -- paving the way for Miranda to join the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners. Bonus: If Miranda scores an Oscar this year, he'll become the youngest even EGOT recipient.

5. In the Academy's eyes, the best films don't always have the best acting

Beyond Emma Stone (the favorite to win the category), not one of the Best Actress nominees is in a Best Picture-nominated film. Keep trying, Amy Adams.

6. You still don't need to see Passengers

Don't be fooled by its two noms (Production Design and Original Score). Seriously, save yourself.
